Leroy Jethro Gibbs – who is a special agent and the supervisor of the NCIS team. He gives a level of identity to this character that is unsurpassed by any other television series. There is good reason for that as well! His character served in the U.S. Marine Corps which led to a career as a Scout Sniper. The two options on the table were either to attend college, or to serve his country. He opted for the military route because he was never much for reading textbooks. Creating history seemed much more rewarding than simply reading about it. His responsibility as a USMC (United States Marine Core) Scout Sniper was to take out the enemy from concealed positions out of view. This speaks volumes of his character because he’s always working under the radar on NCIS.
The NCIS cast also has to do this, in order to get the job done with minimal interference, but it’s all done under the leadership of Gibbs. Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, he had successfully earned the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. This is the point in his life when he decided to join NCIS. It was actually called NIS when he joined (that’s how long he’s been with the agency). He made the decision to leave retirement for NCIS for two reasons: because of the death of his wife Shannon, and his daughter Kelly who were both murdered. Eventually, through knowledge he acquired while working for NCIS, he located the drug dealer responsible for both murders. He traveled to Mexico where he found – and later executed – the man responsible for the killings. Gibbs is not a man who allows the enemy to control his life. Justice always prevails due to his exceptional leadership over DiNozzo, McGee, Abby, and Ziva.
